Meet Wine Hopper
After years of guiding traditional wine tours throughout Central Otago, we wanted to create something a little different.
So in 2018, Wine Hopper was born: a flexible, guided wine tour focused on Arrowtown & Gibbston, where the close proximity of the wineries and venues allows us to give guests greater freedom to shape their afternoon, while still having a qualified local Wine Guide taking care of the driving, timing and logistics.
There’s no fixed winery timetable. Choose where you’d like to visit, ask your Wine Guide for recommendations, or combine the two. Most guests enjoy 3–4 wineries, cellar doors and local venues, with wine tastings, food and drinks purchased directly at the places they choose.
One of the things we love most is seeing guests continue their wine journey with us. Some join Wine Hopper after experiencing one of our traditional wine tours to discover somewhere new, while others return on their next visit to Queenstown to explore a little more.
If you're not ready for the day to end, choose Ayrburn as your final destination, arriving at approximately 5:30pm, then stay on for drinks or dinner and arrange your own transport afterwards.

Begin your day in Queenstown, Frankton or directly in historic Arrowtown. Guests joining us in Queenstown or Frankton enjoy the scenic morning journey to Arrowtown, where everyone is fitted with their premium e-bike and helmet, receives a safety briefing and trail map, then sets off on an unforgettable 15km self-guided ride through the Arrow and Kawarau River trails to Gibbston.
Follow the rivers through classic Central Otago landscapes, crossing historic bridges and the spectacular Edgar Suspension Bridge, with mountain views, river gorges and plenty of opportunities to stop for photos along the way. You’ll also ride past the famous Kawarau Bungy Bridge before continuing into Gibbston.
Once you reach Gibbston Valley Winery, the bikes are finished for the day. Meet your qualified local Wine Guide and spend the afternoon exploring 3–4 wineries, cellar doors and local venues across Arrowtown & Gibbston. Your Wine Guide takes care of the driving, timing and logistics, so there’s no cycling after the wine tastings begin.
